What:
Supporting Acts: Appropriate Grammar, The Cave Girls Old Warhorse From January, 2011 A.D., and the diverse, eclectic creative machine of Denton, Texas, rose the five-piece blues force, Old Warhorse. Evoke Grizzly Adams and Jesse James chasing bourbon into the scarecrow dawn, and you’ll understand the rust and muscle behind the band’s self-named 7-inch vinyl release. Members of the band currently play in such acts as Pinebox Serenade, the Spitfire Tumbleweeds, The Jakeys, and Magnum Octopus. Stemming from a broad base of musical backgrounds and influences, the band formed out of mutual appreciation for the likes of Howling Wolf, R.L. Burnside, and Junior Kimbrough. Between the crunchy yet concise acoustic train and the haunting lopes of the electric guitar, the sizzling of grilled meat echoes from some background swamp. In Old Warhorse, the roots of twentieth century music have blossomed into blues riffs and songsmithery that deliver eight driving cylinders of rock, songs about being in love and getting bitten by dogs, and, of course, the debate over which is worse.
