- 2012 Downtown Council Annual LuncheonVision for a Downtown KC Arts CampusFriday, December 14, 2012 Grand Ballroom, Kansas City Convention Center 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Imagine a Downtown Campus for the Arts with more than 600 music, dance and art students studying, performing, living and playing in Downtown. Imagine a campus that embraces two of Kansas City’s most respected cultural institutions, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. Imagine the possibilities... and their impact on Downtown. The Downtown Council’s 2012 Annual Luncheon will focus on a Vision for a Downtown Arts Campus, one of the Chamber’s Big 5 initiatives and its related economic development for the Conservatory, UMKC and Downtown Kansas City. Now in its 107th year, the Conservatory is internationally recognized as a center for artistic excellence, innovation and engagement. The Conservatory is a vital player at home in America's Creative Crossroads, where the internationally heralded openings of the Kauffman Center and the Todd Bolender Center for Dance and Creativity raised the bar for Downtown just last year.UMKC has completed its evaluation of the economic, educational and cultural benefits of lifting the Conservatory, literally, into the heart of the city and linking it to the Kauffman Center.
