home Musica Vocale performs 'Byrd and the B's'

What:
MUSICA VOCALE, conducted by Arnold Epley, opens its fifth season with a concert entitled Byrd and the B’s. The concert, with music by Bach, Byrd and Bruckner, will be presented in the historic Old St. Patrick’s Oratory two blocks east of the Whittaker Federal Courthouse on Sunday November 4 at 3:00 pm. The concert will include J.S. Bach’s motet Komm, Jesu, Komm for double chorus and continuo, Mass for Five Voices by William Byrd, and Anton Bruckner’s Mass in E minor for chorus and wind orchestra. Old St. Patrick’s Oratory, 806 Cherry Street, although little known by Kansas City’s musical community, is one of the most beautiful spaces in the metropolitan area as well as having acoustical properties that make it a perfect venue for these works by Byrd, Bruckner and Bach. There is easily accessible parking available. The 36-member chorus will be joined by members of Kansas City Baroque Consortium for Bach’s Komm, Jesu, Komm. Players from Kansas City’s symphonic community will make up the orchestra for Bruckner’s Mass, which is based on Renaissance styled melodies. Tickets will be available at the door, or can be reserved online at www.musicavocale.org. Students will be admitted free of charge.
