- Title: Biomaterials: Past Accomplishments, Current Advances, and Future Trends Advances in developmental biology, genetics, molecular biochemistry as well as the need for new therapeutic methodologies in medicine and health care are the impetus for new trends in the biomaterials field. The scope and creativity of these endeavors are impressive. Researchers working at these frontiers are blazing new trails and are exploring approaches which were undreamed of in the past. This presentation will briefly review past accomplishments and current advances as well as highlight trends in biomaterials which have great, but yet untapped, potential for applications in the clinical milieu as well as in the biotechnology and tissue engineering fields.
