- ARMY WIVES JOIN FORCES TO CREATE KANSAS FREEDOMFEST A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR AMERICA’S HEROES NOVEMBER 9TH & 10TH IN LEAVENWORTH, KS In 2004, Keira Jones and Hope Corizzo met when both of their sons, Will and Nathan were in the 2nd Grade at MacArthur Elementary on Ft. Leavenworth. The boys played together on post, at school and the mothers became good friends. The Army wives had arrived in Ft. Leavenworth within a few months of each other, finding themselves moving across the country and overseas and raising their children while their husbands were deployed. The women remained friends even as Hope and her husband moved to Hawaii and then returned to Leavenworth when both families decided to make Kansas home, and began putting down roots even through two separate year-long deployments. In 2011, both Jones and Corizzo became involved in Buffalo Bill Day, a local festival in Leavenworth, Kansas, on a volunteer level. They saw a need to promote Leavenworth, Kansas, a community that has been known for years in the Army as the Army’s Hometown. Having made Leavenworth their adopted home, they created Good Prairie, LLC., to fulfill a need to support Veterans and their families. Now the two military wives are taking on Kansas FreedomFest, the largest veterans benefit concert in the region to shine the spotlight on the many veterans and military that live in and around Kansas City. Participating military organizations include the Veteran’s Administration, the American Legions and VFW Posts. The Korean War 60th Anniversary Commemoration Committee will present during the concert on Saturday, November 10th, and the Honor and Remember flags will present to family members of the fallen. Kansas FreedomFest is a two-day festival, set for Friday, November 9, and Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 10th Avenue Park, to celebrate America’s Veterans over the Veteran’s Day weekend in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Festival will culminate in a Rocking country concert featuring Clay Walker, Aaron Tippin, The Marshall Tucker Band, Travis Marvin and The Hammerdown, Lexie Hofer, Biker Chix & Last Chance Flight, Kyle Whitaker, Joey Glenn and Chris Webb, and the Showdown winner. . A select number of 10,000 tickets to the Salute to Veterans Benefit Concert will be available to Veterans free of charge, a reduced price ticket available at local Leavenworth County merchant sponsors, and a standard priced ticket will be available online through the website www.kansasfreedomfest.com. Civic organizations and non-profit organizations will be provided the opportunity to sell food, and other items for their own fundraising goals, as well as have booths to promote their organization or services. The Kansas FreedomFest was created to not only show our unwavering support of our Veteran community, but promote awareness of the programs and services the American Legion provides to all Veterans, Past, Present, Always. .# # # www.kansasfreedomfest.com Copyright © 2012 FreedomFest.com.
