- Pearl Harbor survivors in Johnson County, Kan., will commemorate the 71st anniversary of the attack with a reception from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center, 6200 Martway in Mission, Kan. The event is free and the public is invited. Survivors will share memories of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor that led to U.S. involvement in World War II. A moment of silence will be observed at 11:55 a.m., the Kansas City time the bombing began. The Shawnee Mission North ROTC color guard will present the colors, and Mission Mayor Laura McConwell will make a proclamation. Local Pearl Harbor veterans expected to attend are: Jack Carson, 89, Overland Park, Kan. (Army Air Corps) Jesse Dunnagan, 92, Prairie Village, Kan. (Navy) Dorwin Lamkin, 90, Mission, Kan.
