home The 2013 Inaugural Martin Luther King, Jr. Recruiting Combine

Championship Volleyball and NCSA Athletic Recruiting present the Inaugural Martin Luther King, Jr., Recruiting Combine on January 18th, 2013, sponsored by Wilson Sporting Goods.  This event will be held in conjunction with the 2013 Kansas City Martin Luther King Day Tournament, hosted by the Heart of America Region of USAV. There will be two sessions - the first from 6:00 - 7:30 pm and the second from 7:30 - 9:00 pm.  The Combine is limited to 150 players per session, and each registrant will participate in only one of the two waves.  No walk up registrations will be accepted and due to limited space, refunds will not be provided. ***Please remember to complete the Player/Attendee information near the bottom of the registration page (below the credit card info).  This is specific information we need to provide to the college volleyball coaches in attendance.*** The Combine is open to any and all volleyball players from 8th grade to Seniors in high school, regardless of Martin Luther King Day Tournament participation or club affiliation. This is a great opportunity for young athletes aspiring to play at the next level to be seen by college volleyball programs. We expect a number of college volleyball programs in attendance, representing the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College levels.  Please note that Friday, January 18th, is the final day of the NCAA Division I "Quiet Period" for recruitment, however, all contact information of Combine participants will be made available to the Division I coaches attending the Martin Luther King Day Tournament. Combine FormatPlayers will be separated by their court positions - Outside Hitters (including right sides), Middle Attackers, Setters and Liberos/Defensive Specialists.Court drills will be position specific:Outside Hitters - Passing, attacking, end blocking, transition attacking, defense and serving.Middle Attackers - Blocking and footwork in all three blocking positions, attacking all zones, transition footwork and attacks.Setters - Sets to all zones/attacks, footwork to and from setting zone, defense and serving.Liberos/Defensive Specialists - Passing to all zones, defense of all zones, serving.After the completion of positional drills, players will run through a series of group drills.  There will be no 6-on-6 scrimmaging so as to avoid those injuries common in team play. The Coach The Combine and recruiting education talk will be led by former Division I Women's Volleyball coach, and NCSA Educational Speaker, Matt Sonnichsen.Matt recently retired from the coaching ranks after 15 years, with head coaching stops at the University of Iowa, the University of Tulsa, Newberry College and Louisiana Tech University.In addition to his coaching experience, Matt was a 2x NCAA Division I National Champion at the University of California - Los Angeles, where he was an All-American Setter and National Championship MVP.  After his college playing days, Matt played for the USA National team, as well as the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.To learn more about "The Coach", we encourage you to check out www.collegevolleyballcoach.com.  FAQsWhat are my transport/parking options getting to the event?Parking is available on the streets surrounding the Convention Center.
