- About us … In 2011, the Angel in the Sky Foundation was formed by the same people that have put on the Toasted for Tots™ event for the past nine years. Creation of this Foundation provided us the ability to become a non-profit organization with the ability to trademark our event name, organize events, and manage donations in a much bigger capacity than has been possible in past years. This year, all our event planning and donation money is in support of the United States Marines Toy for Tots™ campaign. At the 9th Annual Toasted for Tots™ Event, the Foundation will be collecting new, unwrapped toys and/or cash donations. All the cash donations collected at the event will be handed over that evening to the Marines that will be attending our event. In the next few days following our event, we will meet the Marines at a local toy store to use the exact amount of money raised at our event to buy as many toys as possible. How can you help? The Foundation offers many ways for everyone to get involved. We have several levels of donation amounts (Corporate Sponsors and Foundation General Membership), toy donation before or at the annual Event, and volunteer hours before, during, or after Event. General Information The STORY behind Angels in the Sky Toasted for Tots is an idea with roots that go back to the fall 2003. It began when I learned of the Christmas bonus I would be receiving from my employer that year. Being 23 at the time with no concept of saving for the future, I instantly started contemplating the many different ways in which I could rid myself of such a bonus. However, as the holiday seas on grew closer I realized that the reason for my employer’s generosity was most likely meant to help relieve some of the financial stress that comes with the holidays. I didn’t know it at the time, but that realization would come to play a roll in how I would allocate my new found extra money. Ask anyone in my family and they’ll tell you that I’ve loved Christmas my entire life. I enjoy everything from the sparkling lights to the corny songs. The reason for my affection of December 25th and the days that lead up to it can be traced directly to one person, my mother, Janet Elaine Mudd. As far back as I can remember she made sure that Christmas was a special time of the year. Whether it was decorating the house or baking holiday treats, she always went the extra mile. That all changed when we lost my mom to cancer in the summer of 2000. It was with her in mind, that the idea began to take form. Like many young people growing up, I spent what little money I had on foolish things. Having never been able to afford a nice gift for my mother the Christmases I shared with her, I decided on what I would do with my bonus. I would donate it to a charity in her name. As I considered the different charities out there one thing occurred to me, they all seemed a bit impersonal. I wanted my mom’s gift to have a direct effect on people. That’s when I thought of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. It was PERFECT. There would be no way for my donation to get lost in the shuffle; I was going to buy toys! At that time, the notion to throw a party came from a somewhat selfish place. Anyone who has lost a loved one can tell you that dealing with that loss is especially difficult during the holidays. Christmas had lost its “magic” for me. I began to mull over the concept of using some of my bonus to host a Christmas themed shindig. It would give me something to look forward to during the holidays. Once I started running the numbers, I quickly realized that putting on such an event would require most, if not all of my bonus money. Then it dawned on me, I could throw a party and make the cover charge be a new toy. The best of both worlds so to speak. I approached my good friend, Jim Eaton, with the idea and he immediately signed on. With Outlaw Jim and the Whiskey Benders committed to play, I knew then the party was a go. Numerous friends chipped in with food, beverages, door prizes, decorations, and even invitations. It was a night I’ll never forget. Although that first event was a great success and one GREAT PARTY, Toasted for Tots seems to grow with each and every year. It is the culmination of so many successful events that has led to the formation of Angels in the Sky Foundation. The Angel in the Sky is a non-profit organization, we’ve created to ensure the continuation of Toasted for Tots and allow us the opportunity to branch out into more charitable ventures in the future. It is our hope that we may be able to lend a helping hand through a variety of avenues for a long time to come. I would run out of space trying to list all the wonderful people who have contributed over the years. It has been a group effort from the beginning. We’ve collected and purchased thousands of toys for families in need as well as created quite a few Christmas morning smiles along the way. Whether you’re the owner of a venue we’ve used, a sponsor, vendor, volunteer or a guest I’m sure there is tons of folks out there who would express their gratitude towards you if only afforded the opportunity. As for me, you have put the “magic” back into my Christmas! I like to think that in a way my mom’s still going the extra mile and for that I’m eternally grateful. Thank you and Happy Holidays!
