Park University will host an expert panel of journalists and academicians discussing peace journalism in Mexico during a symposium on Thursday, Feb. 21 on the University’s Parkville Campus. The program, “The Crisis in Mexico: Is Peace Journalism Possible?” will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the McCoy Meetin’ House. The event is open to the public. Panelists will include Cristina Ávila-Zesatti, creator and general editor of Corresponsal de Paz, a digital platform dedicated to peace journalism based in Zacatecas, Mexico; Maria Teresa Nicolás Gavilán, Ph.D., director of graduate studies in communication at Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City (participating via Skype); and Mary Sanchez, opinion/local columnist for The Kansas City Star. The moderator for the event will be Steven Youngblood, associate professor of communication arts and director of Park’s Center for Global Peace Journalism.
