- The City of Lenexa Parks & Recreation Department is proud to invite anyone who loves jewelry to the Cupid’s Gems Jewelry Show. The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. It is the perfect opportunity to shop for the perfect Valentine’s gifts for girlfriends, sisters, moms or daughters. Or make it a girl’s day out and treat yourself to a new piece of jewelry. This is not a typical jewelry show, but actually a juried event featuring the professional work of 30 local jewelry artists which offers a variety of styles and types of jewelry to fit any price range. The distinctive designs include fully handcrafted sterling silver jewelry, pearls, hand-blown glass pendants, copper, natural stones and much more. Shoppers may also select items made from fun, funky found objects, chandelier crystals, antique buttons and blown beads. Brian Ruskin will provide musical entertainment playing the acoustical guitar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Concessions will be available for sale in a bistro-like eating area located on the ground floor of the conference center. The event will be held in the Lenexa Conference Center, located in the beautifully restored Thompson Barn, 11184 Lackman Road, just south of College Boulevard and Lackman Road. Plenty of free, onsite parking is available. For more information, visit this direct link on the City’s website or call the Lenexa Community Center at 913.477.7100. Visit the front page of the City website at www.lenexa.com, and see some fantastic images of jewelry from last year’s event taken by volunteer photographer, Matias Causa.
