Shawnee Mission Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its meeting on February 27, 2013 at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 87th and Nall, Prairie Village, Kansas at 12:00 p.m. The Shawnee Mission Chapter will be awarding the winners of the following programs: DAR Good Citizen, American History Essay Contest and Junior American Citizen. The winners were selected based on academic achievement, leadership and service to their school and community. Membership is open to any woman who is eighteen years of age or older by providing documentation for lineal bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American Independence. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War.
