What:
Kansas City big band, The Kicks Band, along with jazz sax and flute player Horace Washington, will perform a free concert at Lincoln College Preparatory Academy on Thursday, Feb. 21, to support the Lincoln Wind Ensemble's efforts to perform at New York's famed Carnegie Hall in March. Along with the professional musicians, several of Lincoln's young jazz musicians will perform at the Feb. 21 concert.. The students recently received a corporate challenge grant of $10,000 to help them complete their fundraising efforts. Thursday's concert is free but donations to help students match the challenge grant will be welcome. The 48-member Wind Ensemble will travel by bus to New York on March 27 for a five-day residency program that ends with an evening performance at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 31. For most of these students, this will be their first trip to New York.
