Dana Mengel: Selections from his new Oregon Trail Suite

This is a benefit concert to start community fundraising efforts to preserve the Independence Pioneer Spring Cabin located at Truman and Noland Road. Composer and musician Dana Mengel will share selections from The Oregon Trail Suites for Strings and Percussion performed by a five-piece ensemble of talented local musicians. Guests will hear Mengel's original compositions as he follows the early pioneers from Wayne City Landing across the vast prairie to Oregon City. Mengel also has composed a special musical selection inspired by the log cabin which will be performed that evening. All tickets sales and donations will go into a designated fund at Truman Heartland Community Foundation to support rehabilitation of the pioneer spring cabin which is owned by the City of independence. The event is being organized by the Jackson County Historical Society along with community partners Learn more about Dana Mengel and how American history inspires his musical compositions. Mengel's music is featured in the recent documentary film The American Artist: The Life & Times of George Caleb Bingham. This event is an endorsed Missouri 2021 bicentennial project. Through the Endorsement Program, Missouri 2021 offers official endorsement to local communities, non-profit organizations, and government agencies for projects, programs, and events that align with the Missouri 2021 mission and vision occurring between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2021.
