Located in the Midtown neighborhood of Missouri’s own Kansas City, the Uptown Theater stands as one of the city’s premiere venues for live entertainment. Opening its doors to the public for the first time in January, 1928, Uptown Theater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.The curtains closed on the Kansas City venue in 1989, and it wasn't until 1994 when it was purchased by UGA LLC that new life was breathed into the Uptown Theater. A $15 million restoration, renovation and building project, saw the venue add on 33,000 square feet of space. The Uptown Theater now boasts five meeting and banquet spaces (including the theater itself), kitchens and beverage service areas, the lobby, and multiple office suites. This Kansas City gem is currently ranked amongst the Top 100 Theatres in the World, according to Pollstar magazine. With such world class facilities on hand, it comes as no surprise that the Uptown Theater schedule is a packed one, hosting a wide variety of live performances each year. Concerts are a particularly popular feature on the schedule, with Bob Dylan, Kings of Leon, Flogging Molly, Rise Against, My Morning Jacket, BB King and Interpol being just a few of the stars who have graced the Uptown Theater stage in the past. Stand-up comics also appear here regularly, and the venue has even been known to play host to such distinguished guest speakers as President Barack Obama, and John McCain. The Uptown Theater schedule takes great pride in accommodating smaller events more local to Kansas City, too, and weddings, proms, community fundraisers and benefits as well as other private parties and corporate events are welcome additions on the venue's calendar.
